What would make me ineligible for weight loss treatment?

Weight loss treatment may not be appropriate for everyone. Before a clinician reviews your information, GenMeds asks for details about your health history so we can better understand whether treatment may be safe and suitable for you.

There are certain medical, safety, and program requirements that may mean weight loss treatment through GenMeds is not the right fit.

You may be ineligible if any of the following apply:

  • You have a personal or family history of certain thyroid cancers

  • You have had pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer

  • You have certain liver, kidney, gallbladder, stomach, or bowel conditions

  • You have uncontrolled diabetes, type 1 diabetes, or use certain diabetes medications

  • You have had certain recent heart or stroke-related events

  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant soon

  • You have a history of certain eating disorders

  • You have certain serious mental health conditions that are not currently managed

  • You recently had bariatric surgery

  • You do not meet program requirements, such as age range or other eligibility criteria

This is not a complete list. Your intake form helps identify these factors, and a clinician will review the information you provide to decide whether weight loss treatment is appropriate.
