What would make me ineligible for cholesterol medication?

Cholesterol medication isn’t right for everyone. A clinician will review your health information to understand whether treatment is safe and appropriate for you.

You may be ineligible for cholesterol medication through GenMeds if certain medical, safety, or program criteria apply.

These may include:

  • Your LDL-C is already below the treatment threshold

  • You’re pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding

  • You’ve had a serious allergic reaction to certain cholesterol medications or their ingredients

  • You have certain severe liver or kidney conditions

  • You have certain types of familial hypercholesterolemia that need specialist care

  • You have certain recent, untreated, or higher-risk heart conditions

  • You take certain medications that may make some cholesterol treatments unsafe

  • You don’t meet program requirements, such as age range or other platform eligibility rules

This isn’t a complete list. The clinician will review your intake form, blood markers, health history, medications, allergies, and cholesterol information to decide whether treatment is appropriate.
