What are the side effects of GLP-1s?

It’s common for patients to experience side effects as their bodies adapt to medication.

Below is a list of some of the most common side effects. If you have any concerns about side effects, consult your clinician.

Important: Talk to your clinician if you have any side effects that bother you or don’t go away.

Zepbound

The most common side effects of ZEPBOUND include:

  • nausea

  • diarrhea

  • vomiting

  • constipation

  • stomach (abdominal) pain

  • indigestion

  • injection site reactions

  • feeling tired

  • allergic reactions

  • belching

  • hair loss

  • heartburn

Notable risks: pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, dehydration or acute kidney injury from GI losses, hypoglycemia when combined with insulin or a sulfonylurea. May reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives around dose escalation.

Wegovy

The most common side effects of WEGOVY include:

  • nausea

  • diarrhea

  • vomiting

  • constipation

  • stomach (abdomen) pain

  • changes in skin sensations

  • headache

  • tiredness (fatigue)

  • upset stomach

  • dizziness

  • feeling bloated

  • belching

  • low blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes

  • gas

  • stomach flu

  • heartburn

  • hair loss

Higher doses, including 7.2 mg, carry more GI effects, and altered skin sensation has been reported more often at 7.2 mg.
